Tokyo 2020. Last Olympics Games for Luis Álvarez Cervera

Aug 9, 2021 | Training | 0 comments

After a little bit different Olympics, Luis is back in Spain.

Luis came as coach of the New Zealand eventing team. The NZ team went into the showjumping on 4th place after a good team performance in the crosscountry. Both Jesse Campbell and Jonelle Price jumped great wihout faults, unfortunatelly Tim who was the 3rd rider got 12 faults which took the team to a 5th place. All three riders from the NZ team also qualified for the individual final.

The Olympic regulations established by the Covid were very strict with the accreditations, not allowing Luis to stay to help and accompany his son Eduardo, who was the only rider who competed for Spain in show jumping. Being accredited by New Zealand, they did not allow him to be with Spain after the eventing competition finished. Eduardo Álvarez Aznar and Legend were brilliant, but with 1 pole down at the end of the course they finished on 31st place in the end and since the new format allows only 30 horses to run in the final, Edu’s participation ended there.

It was a dream come true to see that Jet-Set, bred by Luis (son of Nórdico) was part of the Suiz eventing team, unfortunatelly with a sad ending since he had to be put down after an accident in the cross test . Luis sent his condolences to Robin Godel.

Luis is now enjoying a well-deserved vacation, and will soon return to intensive clinics in Spain and Europe
